System Administrator

About the Role

This position requires capable professionals based in Bengaluru with reliable access to the Tin Factory location. The System Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing both Windows and Linux server environments, along with overseeing critical network and hardware infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, covering installation, configuration, software updates, and enhancement of system performance.
• Manage physical server hardware including diagnostics, component upgrades, replacements, and capacity forecasting.
• Oversee network infrastructure such as LAN/WAN configurations, routing, switching, VLAN management, and network segmentation.
• Configure and maintain enterprise firewalls like Fortinet and SonicWall, ensuring robust network security.
• Deploy and monitor virtualization environments using Proxmox, VMware, and Hyper-V platforms.
• Handle backup and disaster recovery systems employing tools like Proxmox Backup Server, vSphere Backups, Altaro, and other enterprise solutions.
• Administer managed network switches including Cisco, D-Link, MikroTik at various layers (L1/L2/L3) with emphasis on configuration and firmware updates.
• Continuously monitor system availability, performance, and security with specialized tools and initiate necessary improvements.
• Diagnose and promptly resolve issues related to systems, networks, and hardware components.
• Implement security best practices including firewall rule administration, patch management, access controls, and endpoint protections.
• Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of system configurations, operational procedures, and incident reports.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business-critical applications, manage user access, and facilitate daily IT operations.
• Engage in infrastructure planning and execute upgrades, migrations, and expansion projects.
• Utilize IPMI tools for server health monitoring, fault identification, and implementing corrective actions.
• Manage procurement activities related to hardware components (RAM, CPU, storage), vendor quotations, pricing evaluation, and purchasing coordination.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proficient hands-on experience with Windows Server technologies, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy, as well as popular Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, CentOS, and Debian.
• Comprehensive understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, WAN/LAN), routing methodologies, and switching technologies.
• Experience in configuring and managing enterprise firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, VPNs, and implementing network security measures.
• Expertise in virtualization platforms, clustering technologies, SAN/NAS storage solutions, and ensuring high availability.
• Solid knowledge of backup technologies, retention policies, and disaster recovery planning principles.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a beneficial asset.
• Capability to automate administrative tasks using scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills complemented by precise documentation abilities.
• Excellent analytical mindset and troubleshooting expertise.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, and Nagios.
• Understanding of IT security standards, compliance protocols, audit processes, and zero-trust security models.
• Administration experience with email platforms including Microsoft 365 and Linux-based mail servers.
• Knowledge of load balancers, reverse proxy servers, and hosting environment management.
• Capability to manage IT assets, licensing, and procurement workflows efficiently.
