Role Overview

The Surfer Boat Captain position operates on a rotation of one month on-site and one month off, based in Port Harcourt. The captain's primary responsibility is to safely navigate and operate surfer boats, ensuring secure and efficient transportation of passengers, crew, and equipment in alignment with marine safety standards and company policies. Daily duties encompass planning travel routes, assessing weather and sea conditions, performing pre-departure boat inspections, and keeping diligent records and reports.

The role also requires supervising routine maintenance tasks onboard, liaising with shore support teams, providing clear guidance and assistance to passengers and crew, delivering customer service with professionalism, conducting safety briefings, and engaging in continuous training to stay updated on operational protocols and regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated competence in boat handling and operation of small marine vessels, particularly surfer boats.
• Strong navigation expertise, including effective route planning, proficient use of navigation instruments, and thorough knowledge of local waterways and safety rules.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills to ensure a positive experience for passengers and to manage expectations effectively.
• Ability to conduct safety trainings, mentor fellow crew members, and commit to ongoing professional development.
• Possession of relevant maritime certifications or licenses in accordance with local laws, such as a captain's or boat operator's license, is required or highly desirable.
• Good understanding of marine safety practices, emergency procedures, and basic vessel upkeep is advantageous.
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays, combined with physical capability to perform tasks such as boarding, mooring, and equipment handling.
• Prior experience with coastal or offshore activities in the Port Harcourt area is beneficial.
