Supervisor Social Worker - Kaikohe

About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position based at the Kaikohe site where you will contribute to supporting tamariki (children) and whānau (families) in fostering positive community change. The role demands a strong passion for whānau wellbeing and a commitment to a whānau-led approach characterized by awhi (support) and enhancing whānau mana (dignity and respect).

As a Supervisor Social Worker, you will lead, support, and manage a team of social workers collaborating closely with Iwi as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations to support tamariki and their families. Building and maintaining effective relationships across the region is vital, and you will be expected to travel as needed.

Your responsibilities will include identifying and addressing your team's professional development needs, managing workflow to ensure timely and correct decision-making, and ensuring all practices align with Oranga Tamariki's values and Practice Framework, Principles, and Standards. Collaboration with peer supervisors and the broader leadership team is essential, recognizing the importance of your role within the wider operational context.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will be an experienced Supervisor, preferably currently or recently employed as a Supervisor within Oranga Tamariki. Essential qualifications and attributes include:

• A valid, clean full driver's license
• Full registration with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
• A social work qualification recognized by SWRB
• Proven experience in people management or mentoring
• Strong team leadership and collaboration skills
• A proactive mindset focused on centering tamariki needs in decisions and actions
• Outstanding time management and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
• In-depth knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989’s principles and purposes
• A respectful understanding of cross-cultural practices, with specific knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples' cultures

Additional Information

The role offers a competitive salary starting at NZD 107,786 annually. Applicants must be willing to commit fully to the role’s on-site requirements in Kaikohe and be prepared for regional travel.
