Job description
Position Overview
The Supervisor in the kitchen environment will oversee and coordinate the activities of cooks and kitchen workers to maintain smooth operations. This role involves ensuring the food presentation is appealing through decorative displays, consistent portioning, and proper garnishing. Monitoring food quantities prepared and communicating menu specials or stock shortages to the Food & Beverage service team is essential. The Supervisor will also prepare special or substitute meals, assist kitchen staff during tasks, provide necessary supplies to cooks, manage kitchen inventory, and maintain food safety documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise kitchen staff including cooks and workers to ensure efficient operations.
- Oversee food presentation and ensure proper portion sizes and garnishing standards.
- Monitor quantity of food prepared and coordinate with service staff on special items or out-of-stock menu dishes.
- Assist with food preparation tasks and provide necessary items to kitchen personnel.
- Manage kitchen stock levels and maintain logs for food safety compliance.
- Ensure quality control of food products and escalate issues to management if standards are not met.
- Support management in recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee motivation.
- Enforce company policies, health and safety procedures, reporting hazards, accidents, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality of sensitive company information.
- Address guest service requests effectively and maintain positive communication within the team.
- Perform physical activities including standing, sitting, walking for prolonged periods, reaching, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical, trade, or vocational school diploma or equivalent.
- Between 4 and 6 years of relevant work experience in the food and beverage or culinary industry.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role overseeing kitchen or food preparation staff.
- No specific licenses or certifications are required.
