Supervising Pharmacist

Role Overview

The Supervising Pharmacist will be responsible for overseeing the smooth and lawful functioning of a community pharmacy in Dublin 6, reporting to the Superintendent Pharmacist. The position demands a professional mindset with leadership qualities focused on delivering excellent patient service within a friendly and proactive atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the pharmacy operates safely and in compliance with the Pharmacy Act 2007, Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland regulations, and all relevant legal and professional standards.
• Deliver and supervise high-quality patient care including medication counseling, adherence support, and clinical checks.
• Manage and provide pharmacy services such as vaccinations, Common Conditions Service, emergency contraception, and blood pressure monitoring.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold the ethical standards expected in pharmacy practice.
• Implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring all staff comply fully.
• Lead and motivate the pharmacy team consisting of a support pharmacist, OTC assistants, and technicians; handle performance reviews, training, and development.
• Maintain health and safety standards and promptly report any concerns to management.
• Prepare for and actively participate in PSI inspections.
• Ensure compliance with HSE Primary Care Reimbursement Service regulations, manage dispensing under community drug schemes, and handle monthly claims and audits.
• Support retail sales management and participate in healthcare events.
• Identify and drive opportunities to enhance pharmacy services and operational efficiencies.
• Collaborate with wider pharmacy group stakeholders to achieve company objectives.
• Engage in staff training initiatives and attend company meetings as necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Registered member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland with a minimum of three years post-registration experience.
• Experience within community pharmacy settings across Ireland, with familiarity in relevant schemes.
• Previous supervisory or management experience in pharmacy is preferred.
• Strong leadership, decision-making capabilities and a proven sense of responsibility.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills supporting patient care and customer engagement.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, capable of managing multiple tasks accurately under pressure.
• A positive, approachable, and professional demeanor.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Flexibility and willingness to fully participate in all pharmacy operations.
• Experience with delivering vaccination and common condition services is advantageous.
