Superintendent Radiographer (MRI)

Position Overview

We seek a dedicated and experienced Radiographer to join our MRI Management team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role involves working across multiple hospital locations: Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Weston Park, and Northern General sites.

Work Environment and Equipment

The MRI department operates seven days per week with shifts covering three days weekly from 7:20 am to 8:30 pm. It has eight MRI scanners—seven Siemens models and one Philips 3T scanner—serving numerous specialized clinical areas, including MSK, gynecology, urology, obstetrics, cardiology, vascular, neurology, breast imaging, gastrointestinal, oncology, radiotherapy planning, research, and specialist implant scanning.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee radiographers and clinical imaging assistants across multiple sites.
• Report directly to the MRI Service Manager and collaborate with fellow superintendents, educators, practitioners, and assistants to ensure optimal service delivery.
• Conduct appraisals for senior radiographers and monitor compliance with mandatory training and sickness absence policies in line with trust standards.
• Maintain clinical duties at a high standard alongside managerial tasks, requiring effective time management.
• Plan and prioritize staffing and resource allocation amid operational demands.

Candidate Profile

• HCPC-registered Radiographer with comprehensive experience in multidisciplinary MRI services.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated professionalism.
• Adaptability, flexibility in task management, and ability to perform well under pressure.
• Commitment to exemplifying Trust values in daily practice with strong MRI and leadership expertise.

Organizational Context

The Directorate of Medical Imaging and Medical Physics is one of the largest within the Trust, managing a large budget and employing approximately 690 staff across five sites. The directorate provides diagnostic, interventional imaging services, and technical support in Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. It supports advanced diagnostics and treatment in a legally compliant and innovative environment while promoting staff development and training.
