This position involves assisting the City Waters team by developing a practical, risk-based system to monitor the siltation and maintenance requirements of stormwater ponds. Key Responsibilities
- Perform both visual inspections and quantitative field surveys on stormwater ponds.
- Assist in creating a Stormwater Pond Siltation and Maintenance Assessment Manual.
- Support data-driven decision-making to prioritize maintenance for key urban infrastructure.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate is currently pursuing or has recently completed postgraduate studies in an environmental discipline, with either experience or a keen interest in environmental monitoring. You must be conscious of safety, especially working near open bodies of water and managing field risks. Valuable skills include proficiency in GIS, spatial data analysis, foundational hydrographic or survey techniques, data management, knowledge of stormwater systems, and understanding of open-channel hydrodynamics. Experience or certification in boating is an advantage. A valid full New Zealand driver’s license is mandatory.
