Position Overview
The Faculty of Law seeks a Student Support Advisor for the Pacific community to join its dedicated student support team. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to positively impact Pacific students' academic and personal journeys through tailored advice, advocacy, and pastoral care. You will cultivate meaningful relationships with Pacific students to support their engagement, retention, wellbeing, and academic success, connecting them to suitable resources and reinforcing an inclusive study atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer personalized one-on-one advice, guidance, and pastoral support tailored specifically for Pacific students.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance recruitment, retention, participation, and overall achievement of Pacific students.
- Collaborate closely with academic personnel, course leaders, student services, and Pacific student networks throughout the University.
- Support specific faculty initiatives including the Moana Oceanic program and the Undergraduate Targeted Admissions Scheme.
- Manage appointment scheduling, handle student enquiries, maintain precise records, and assist with student-centered events and activities.
Team Environment
You will join a cooperative and nurturing team dedicated to student success, embedded within the Faculty of Law and collaborating with the Faculty of Business and Economics. The role provides opportunities to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders and help foster an inclusive, empowering space for Pacific students to excel.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a tertiary qualification and/or relevant background in student support, Pacific community services, education, or similar sectors.
- Demonstrate experience in mentoring, pastoral care, advising, or wellbeing support services.
- Have a clear understanding of equity principles and factors influencing success among Pacific students.
- Exhibit strong skills in building rapport with students, families, academic staff, and professional teams.
- Showcase excellent organisational abilities, including proficient management of appointments, activities coordination, and accurate record-keeping.
- Be computer literate with confidence in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Capable of prioritizing multiple responsibilities in dynamic, sometimes high-pressure, environments.
- Knowledge of Pasifika cultures and prior engagement with Pacific communities or students are highly preferred.
Benefits and Work Conditions
- Permanent full-time role with 37.5 hours per week.
- Salary range from $63,600 to $79,300, dependent on skills and experience.
- Flexible employment options including potential work-from-home days, subject to operational needs (one day per week during busy times, up to two days during slower periods).
- Participation in an employer superannuation scheme with up to 6.75% contributions.
- Five weeks of annual leave entitlement.
