About the Team
The Student Development team within the Academic Division at the University of Otago consists of highly skilled professionals dedicated to providing excellent student and staff experiences through effective service delivery. The team focuses on enhancing the student journey from admission through to graduation, supplying accurate and timely information and support.
The Academic Division oversees teaching and learning policies, academic staff processes, and various student support teams, ensuring a comprehensive framework for academic success.
Role Overview
As a Student Adviser, you will collaborate with a team to offer high-quality, student-focused advice to undergraduate students. Your role ensures students have a rewarding experience at the University of Otago by providing guidance on programmes and courses, helping them make informed choices aligned with their academic and career objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, student-centered guidance aiding students in achieving their goals throughout their university journey.
- Offer precise advice on courses and programmes compliant with university regulations.
- Guide students on available support services including Career Development Centre, Disability Information and Support, International Student Support, and the Pacific Island Centre Te Huka Mātauraka.
- Coordinate with Student Experience teams, Academic Division, academic staff, and wider university departments to provide early, targeted advice and assistance.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in advisory roles, preferably in educational contexts.
- Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to students.
- Background in student administration or related support services within tertiary education.
- Ability to work effectively in busy or complex environments.
- Understanding of pastoral care and extracurricular support services available at Otago.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general PC skills; familiarity with eVision is advantageous.
Additional Information
The role requires flexibility to perform duties across different campus locations as needed. The University provides ongoing training and development opportunities to support staff growth in desired areas.
This is a full-time, permanent role based in Dunedin, working 37.5 hours per week.
