Sterilization Specialist Technician

Job Overview

The Sterilization Specialist Technician is accountable for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and timely distribution of surgical instruments and medical apparatus, following the protocols and standards set by Fakeeh Care Group. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the availability of properly sterilized equipment for patient care and surgical procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, and examine used surgical instruments and medical devices for effective decontamination.
• Manually clean instruments utilizing appropriate detergents and disinfectants.
• Operate and maintain decontamination machinery such as ultrasonic cleaners, washers, and disinfectors.
• Assemble surgical instrument trays and medical equipment per established guidelines.
• Package instruments and materials correctly for sterilization, ensuring proper wrapping, accurate labeling, and documentation.
• Inspect instruments for damage or wear and report discrepancies to the line manager.
• Operate sterilization equipment like autoclaves according to manufacturer specs and organizational policies.
• Monitor and record sterilization cycles, covering parameters such as time, temperature, and pressure.
• Conduct regular biological, chemical, and mechanical tests to validate sterilization effectiveness.
• Store sterilized instruments and supplies in designated areas, ensuring inventory control and proper rotation.
• Distribute sterilized equipment to operating rooms, clinics, and other departments as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation for sterilization processes and inventory tracking.
• Adhere strictly to infection control protocols and safety procedures to avoid cross-contamination and maintain a safe environment.
• Engage in scheduled maintenance, calibration, and performance inspections of equipment.
• Report any equipment malfunctions, incidents, or safety issues promptly to supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including those from Joint Commission and OSHA.
• Participate actively in quality improvement programs and continuous education regarding sterilization advancements.
• Demonstrate compassionate communication while supporting patients and staff.
• Maintain a positive, proactive stance when facing challenges.

• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with cybersecurity and ethical conduct policies.
• Complete mandatory training and education requirements timely.

Experience and Qualifications

• At least one year of experience as a certified sterilization technician within a clinically complex tertiary healthcare center.
• Familiarity with Performance Improvement processes and international sterilization standards.
• Bachelor's degree or associate degree in Health Science or a related field.
• Certification or diploma in sterile processing/sterilization.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Valid professional license from country of origin and approval from regional health authorities such as SCFHS/DHA.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and other relevant Life Support Training Courses.
