Job Location and Schedule
Position based in Des Moines, Iowa, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Role Overview
We seek a dependable and safety-conscious Steam Bay Technician responsible for cleaning and degreasing commercial trucks, mixers, and heavy equipment prior to inspection, repair, or painting. The technician ensures that vehicles are clean and ready according to VDA and production timelines, facilitating smooth operations for the technical team.

Main Duties
- Organize vehicle cleaning priorities based on VDA and production schedules, completing preparation before appointments or repair starts.
- Thoroughly degrease and wash all damaged and inspection areas to aid clear identification of defects.
- Report any damage, leaks, unsafe conditions, or loose parts found during cleaning.
- Verify each unit is adequately cleaned and ready for VDA release from the steam bay.
- Log the timing of units entering and exiting the steam bay, updating work and job statuses accurately.
- Effectively and safely handle hot-water steamers, pressure washers, degreasers, and chemical cleaning systems.
- Inspect cleaning equipment regularly for proper function and complete routine maintenance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization within the steam bay, ensuring no unnecessary vehicles obstruct workflow.
- Operate authorized units in and out of the steam bay and collaborate with the production team on daily priorities.
- Adhere strictly to chemical safety instructions, environmental regulations, PPE requirements, and workplace safety standards.
- Support body-shop tasks when steam cleaning duties are up to date, following directions from the production foreman.
- Uphold dependable attendance, punctuality, readiness of equipment, and Bay safety standards.
- Comply with all company safety policies.
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
Required Skills and Experience
- Preferably at least one year of experience in vehicle washing, detailing, power washing, or similar industrial cleaning roles.
- Attention to detail, reliability, punctuality, and pride in high-quality work standards.
- Ability to follow work priorities independently and communicate issues affecting inspection or production.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is advantageous.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and reliable transportation.
- Alignment with the company’s core values.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
- Capability to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
- Regular activities involve standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
- Must work safely in conditions that may be wet, dirty, hot, or humid.
- Use of required protective equipment for eyes, ears, feet, hands, and others as assigned.
Work Environment
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
- Frequent exposure to water, heat, humidity, steam, chemicals, high-pressure equipment, moving vehicles, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, varied temperatures, and noise that ranges from moderate to very loud.
