Role Overview
We are seeking experienced full-stack engineers to join our Time and Scheduling product team. This position entails end-to-end feature development from initial design to deployment and iterative improvement. Responsibilities include writing clean frontend code, constructing reliable backend APIs, influencing product strategy, and owning post-launch performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test core Gusto Time-related products.
- Provide mentorship to engineers tackling complex technical challenges in large-scale, intricate domains.
- Contribute to scaling significant Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React applications.
- Work collaboratively with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering teams to identify customer pain points, devise solutions, create prototypes, iterate rapidly, and release features.
- Develop products that deliver meaningful value to customers.
Desired Qualifications
- At least eight years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven ability to build scalable solutions that alleviate user issues and create engaging customer experiences.
- Experience utilizing AI tools or systems to speed development, enhance testing, or provide innovative product capabilities.
- An experimental approach to emerging AI technologies, including sharing best practices and ensuring safe scaling across teams.
- Track record of leading multi-quarter projects addressing complex engineering challenges and delivering measurable impact at scale.
- Experience managing large-scale code refactors, improving application performance and reliability, with strong ownership of product areas.
- Through mentoring, help engineers maximize their performance and influence.
- Familiarity or interest in Ruby on Rails development.
- Commitment to collaborative, test-driven engineering practices.
- Ability to produce well-structured, maintainable, and documented code.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Additional Information & Terms
This position requires travel to Gusto’s office for onboarding. Ongoing office presence expectations differ by location: Denver, San Francisco, New York, and Scottsdale office employees are expected to work on-site approximately 2-3 days per week. Remote work requires a secure and consistent internet connection on non-office days. Compensation is competitive with estimated target base salaries ranging from $163,000 to $204,000 in Denver and most remote regions, and $197,000 to $247,000 in San Francisco and New York, plus equity. Final offers depend on experience and expertise.
