Staff Platform Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join a partner company based in Ireland. This role is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on enhancing how software is built, tested, delivered, and maintained across the organization. You will play a pivotal role in shaping platform foundations that support product teams and AI coding agents, enabling rapid and reliable software development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and evolve the platform and infrastructure foundations used by product teams, balancing the need for standardization with team autonomy.
• Enhance the entire engineering development lifecycle, covering local development, CI/CD pipelines, deployment practices, production feedback, and developer experience.
• Establish and enforce engineering standards for automated testing, infrastructure as code, observability, reliability, and secure software delivery, helping teams to adopt these effectively.
• Create and maintain shared tooling, templates, reusable components, and standardized workflows to reduce friction and increase efficiency across engineering teams.
• Manage secure delivery processes end-to-end, including integration of security scanning, secrets management, dependency controls, supply chain protections, and penetration testing into development pipelines.
• Keep abreast of evolving security challenges, particularly regarding how AI coding agents influence vulnerabilities and their exploitation.
• Improve code repositories, development conventions, documentation, test coverage, and feedback mechanisms to optimize AI agents' ability to understand and produce code reliably.
• Measure platform initiative outcomes with DORA metrics and qualitative feedback to continually enhance developer experience.
• Lead technically by setting strategic direction and remaining directly involved with code, infrastructure, automation, and pipeline development.

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive software engineering expertise with proven experience building and maintaining production-grade systems.
• Proven track record in designing and developing internal platforms, with discernment on what elements to abstract, expose, standardize, or leave adaptable.
• In-depth knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, developer tooling, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Comprehensive understanding of software security, secure delivery practices, shift-left security, and SecDevOps principles.
• A product-centric approach to internal platforms, focusing on engineers and AI agents as end-users, and measuring improvements in their productivity through tooling.
• Practical experience working with AI coding agents, understanding their operational challenges and opportunities to design engineering environments that enhance their effectiveness.
• Ability to act as a hands-on technical leader who sets strategic directions while actively contributing to coding, infrastructure, pipeline, and tooling development.
• Strong systems thinking capabilities, recognizing opportunities for broad organizational gains in standardization, automation, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of influencing product teams and driving the adoption of unified engineering practices.
• Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks, such as Playwright, and knowledge of scaling automated testing environments is highly advantageous.
• Comfort working within fast-paced, high-responsibility settings where processes and playbooks may be evolving.
