Role Overview
We seek an experienced and driven Staff Network Production Engineer to join our Network Operations team in Dublin. This role involves managing and operating Crusoe's global edge, backbone, and data center network infrastructure that supports high-performance computing clusters with GPUs. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-directed, technically fluent, and comfortable navigating complex, evolving environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the network's performance metrics, troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analyses, and lead post-incident reviews to strengthen network stability.
- Implement network changes across datacenters, backbone, and edge infrastructure, enabling next-gen network designs, capacity scaling, and reliability enhancements.
- Oversee and balance the network’s immediate operational needs and long-term strategic goals across frontend, backend, backbone, edge, and public cloud connectivity components.
- Collaborate with the network engineering team and other internal groups to ensure network solutions align with business objectives.
- Lead initiatives to improve operational excellence, including developing advanced monitoring systems, alerting mechanisms, and fail-safe processes for network uptime.
- Mentor junior network engineers, promote best practices in incident response, documentation, and operational preparedness.
- Manage relationships and contracts with network service providers and hardware vendors.
- Provide detailed reporting on network health with metrics, event data, and performance analyses.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous network availability and rapid incident intervention.
Candidate Profile
- Over 10 years of experience managing large-scale production networks.
- Comprehensive understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, QoS, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, EVPN, VXLAN, and MPLS technologies including RSVP-TE and LDP.
- Proficient in network monitoring protocols and tools like SNMP, IPFIX, sFlow/netflow, and telemetry systems.
- Experience with data center, backbone, and edge network design and deployment.
- Programming or scripting experience, preferably in Python or similar languages, to automate operations and develop efficiency-enhancing tools.
- Hands-on familiarity with major networking equipment from vendors such as Mellanox, Cisco, Arista, and Juniper, and with commercial chipset platforms like Broadcom and Barefoot.
- Knowledge of public cloud connectivity options including AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Alibaba Cloud, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
- Strong grasp of IPv6 and transition technologies ensuring coexistence with IPv4.
- Experience with network observability and analytics platforms including NSG, Kentik, Grafana, Arbor, ThousandEyes, Catchpoint, Packet Design, or equivalent.
- Academic qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related studies, or equivalent experience.
Desirable Skills
- Working knowledge of advanced networking technologies such as Infiniband (IB), RoCE, or Spectrum-X is a plus.
