Job description

About Lean Technologies

Lean Technologies is a rapidly expanding fintech firm focused on constructing the financial data infrastructure throughout the MENA region. We operate in a heavily regulated and security-sensitive environment, delivering vital financial services characterized by stringent service level agreements, rigorous security measures, and systems engineered for large-scale scalability.

Role Overview

As a Staff DevOps & Site Reliability Engineer, you will play an integral role at the convergence of DevOps, platform engineering, and site reliability engineering. You will be responsible for defining the infrastructure architecture, reliability procedures, and scalability across hybrid and multi-cloud setups. This leadership position involves not only implementing but significantly shaping how infrastructure is designed, managed, and expanded across the organization.

Current Context

Lean has experienced a threefold expansion over the past year with plans to triple size again soon. What began as a pioneering Open Finance platform in the region is now evolving into a diverse multi-product infrastructure company that supports payments, data analytics, and lending across MENA. We serve over 350 clients, including prominent names like Tabby, Tas'heel, and Hungerstation, while managing billions in transactions. Our investors include General Catalyst, Sequoia, and Shorooq. This role is pivotal in ensuring our infrastructure is scalable, secure, reliable, and efficient enough to support our growth trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the architecture strategy for infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments such as GCP, OCI, and on-premises facilities.
  • Design and continuously improve Kubernetes platforms to achieve multi-region scalability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and enforce Infrastructure as Code and GitOps principles across all platform stages.
  • Create and expand observability frameworks including metrics, logging, and tracing for proactive system reliability.
  • Lead initiatives to fulfill and surpass SLA, SLO, and error budget objectives.
  • Enhance incident management workflows, implement comprehensive postmortem analyses, and drive systemic resolution strategies.
  • Steer automation for provisioning, resource scaling, patch management, and operational procedures.
  • Champion cybersecurity, compliance standards, and reliability practices aligned with SOC 2, ISO 27001, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with engineering departments to elevate developer experience and overall platform user-friendliness.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership within DevOps and infrastructure engineering teams.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering roles.
  • Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux systems and kernel internals.
  • Strong grasp of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing, and firewalls.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes design, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools, particularly Terraform or its equivalents.
  • Strong programming and scripting abilities in languages such as Python or Go.
  • Experience working with hybrid or multi-cloud environments, with a preference for GCP and OCI.

Additional Desired Technical Skills

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or ArgoCD.
  • Containerization and orchestration knowledge, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with observability toolchains including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
  • Understanding of security and compliance frameworks including SOC 2, ISO 27001, and CIS.
  • Ability to optimize performance in distributed system architectures.

Preferred Qualifications and Traits

  • Background in fintech or working within highly regulated industries.
  • Strong comprehension of multi-region deployment strategies and ensuring high availability.
  • Exposure to edge networking platforms such as Cloudflare.
  • Experience with service mesh technologies like Istio or Linkerd.
  • Commitment to thorough documentation and maintaining an effective runbook culture.
  • A passion for developing resilient and scalable infrastructure platforms.
