Staff Data Scientist

About the Opportunity

Our client is a publicly listed global platform powered by AI that connects companies worldwide with specialized service and delivery partners. It provides instant pricing, decision-support, and scalable technology solutions. They are now establishing their first Product Development Team (PDT) in India as a founding group responsible for end-to-end ownership of core global platform areas, setting culture, standards, and practices as the organization grows. This is a full ownership role, not just support or augmentation.

Role Overview

This is a Staff-level individual contributor role focused on advanced data science within a key global product and business vertical. Responsibilities include experimentation, causal inference, applied modeling, mentoring other data scientists, and raising the experimentation maturity within the India team.

The approximate time allocation:

• 40% designing and executing experiments
• 20–30% data science applied to long-term product analysis to identify opportunities and challenges
• 30% managing metrics, conducting business reviews, and analytics

Key Contributions

• Drive AI adoption throughout analytics workflows to enhance data science productivity.
• Define and monitor critical metrics measuring product and business health.
• Analyze complex data to uncover actionable insights that influence business outcomes.
• Create dashboards and visualizations to track performance and trends effectively.
• Design comprehensive experiments using advanced statistical and causal inference techniques such as power analysis, Bayesian methods, and difference-in-differences/pre-post analyses.
• Apply sophisticated modeling techniques like clustering and segmentation to discover product opportunities.
• Work with large-scale datasets on cloud platforms such as AWS and Snowflake, employing tools like SQL, Python, and Business Intelligence software.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to influence strategy and prioritize initiatives.
• Set high technical standards and mentor junior data scientists in experimentation and modeling.
• Help build and scale the India Product Development Team, establishing strong data science practices and collaborating closely with global stakeholders and cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

Required:

• At least 8 years of progressively responsible data science experience, including senior individual contributor roles (staff or principal).
• Hands-on experience working embedded within product teams, beyond ad-hoc business or strategic analysis.
• Proven expertise in sophisticated experimentation methods beyond basic A/B tests, including power analysis, Bayesian statistics, and difference-in-differences or pre/post analyses.
• Comfort with and preference for an individual contributor career path (not currently a people management role, but may evolve).
• Strong proficiency in Python (including pandas, numpy, SciPy, scikit-learn) and solid knowledge of statistics and linear algebra.

Preferred:

• Experience in consumer-facing, e-commerce, payments, or two-sided marketplace environments.
• Prior work in US-headquartered companies or Global Capability Centers (GCC).
• Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in quantitative disciplines such as applied mathematics, computer science, statistics, or engineering.
• Familiarity with reproducible and version-controlled scientific and analytics workflows.
