Job Overview

The Data Science group at LinkedIn applies big data techniques to create data-driven solutions supporting our Infrastructure team. This infrastructure includes data centers, servers, networks, power systems, and the foundational software supporting all our services. This position offers significant impact and growth potential for skilled data scientists.

You will lead the Experimentation Platform team, focusing on building a statistically rigorous, flexible, and powerful platform for online experiments. As the lead statistical expert and technical authority, you'll co-create an AI-driven experimentation interface and backend that includes capabilities such as hierarchical experiments and appropriate statistical safeguards. Your work will incorporate advanced analysis methods like variance reduction, quantile treatment effect analysis, and cross-experiment assessment. You will also help extend platform features to support new experimental designs, including cluster-randomized trials and budget split testing.

Work Location

The role is hybrid, combining remote work from home and on-site presence at LinkedIn offices depending on team needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-develop the AI experimentation user experience and the supporting backend systems.
  • Work with multiple teams to identify business challenges and design algorithms and methods to solve them.
  • Analyze extensive structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Improve LinkedIn's online experimentation techniques.
  • Collaborate with technology partners to design, prototype, and validate scalable end-to-end tools turning data into actionable insights.
  • Advocate and implement advanced data science methods, raising the practice standards within LinkedIn.
  • Lead initiatives independently from conception through completion.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, guiding project priorities and endorsing data-centric decision-making aligned with company goals.
  • Work alongside cross-functional groups to lead or contribute to large, complex strategic projects across the organization.
  • Mentor junior team members by providing technical guidance, reviewing code, and design documents.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative area such as Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Informatics, or related fields pertinent to experimental science.
  • Deep understanding of statistics, including experimentally focused bias and variance analysis techniques.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language and competent in AI software engineering tools.
  • Capability to define requirements and architect systems serving diverse user groups.
  • A minimum of 3 years in roles featuring significant technical leadership and at least 10 years total professional experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience developing infrastructure or platform software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers and stakeholders to influence technical solutions.
