Team Overview

The Enterprise Data & AI team drives lululemon’s growth through strategic and operational contributions, managing data and AI platforms and products that enhance enterprise intelligence at scale. This team designs a unified, trusted data foundation, advanced analytics, and AI solutions across lululemon’s vertically integrated retail system, embedding strong governance and responsible AI from inception. Its work in AI helps transform business operations, speeding innovation, creating value, improving guest and educator experiences, and enhancing efficiency through deep collaboration with product, technology, and business groups.

Role Summary

As a Staff Applied AI/ML Scientist, you will set the direction and scale AI/ML solutions targeting specific business results. Your role involves providing technical leadership, designing solutions for complex systems with multiple parts, and ensuring scalable, reliable, and ethically responsible AI solutions. You will influence technology choices and foster solution-oriented thinking across AI/ML projects while acting as a scientific authority driving state-of-the-art methodologies in applied AI/ML.

Example Projects

• Designing and deploying machine learning and generative AI models for use cases such as demand forecasting, optimization, personalization, search, intelligent automation, and multimodal content creation and enrichment.
• Applying natural language processing, computer vision, multimodal, and time-series modeling on large, mixed structured and unstructured enterprise data sets.
• Developing frameworks to productionalize AI solutions and linking AI/ML model effectiveness to business decision-making.
• Serving as a senior technical partner to product, engineering, and business leaders, advising on AI feasibility, risk, and value realization over multi-year plans.

• Define AI/ML frameworks that guide how business fields utilize AI/ML to solve problems, and develop deployment-ready AI/ML models delivering measurable business benefits.
• Lead technical design and execution of AI/ML solutions addressing complex challenges with advanced methods and scalable models.
• Promote best practices for transforming data into intelligent AI/ML systems, designing pipelines hand-in-hand with engineering teams.
• Set experimentation standards for rigorous evaluation, business impact quantification, and solution validation organization-wide.
• Ensure that AI/ML initiatives are deeply integrated with business context and meet stakeholder requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline; Master's or PhD preferred.
• 9 to 12 years of AI/ML research experience in industrial or equivalent settings, including academic research such as PhD.
• Proven record of technical leadership in delivering applied AI/ML solutions for significant business challenges, with responsible architecture and model evaluation.
• Experience in designing and deploying complex AI/ML solutions involving multiple components into production.
• Skilled at guiding adoption of emerging AI/ML approaches at scale for targeted use cases.
• Experienced in establishing organization-wide frameworks for AI/ML development, evaluation, and responsible AI compliance.
• Proficiency with ML tools including Python, PyTorch, cloud ML platforms, open-source libraries, and reusable ML component creation.

Compensation and Benefits

This role’s annual pay falls typically between $200,080 and $262,610, with base salary adjusted for location, experience, and internal factors. Eligible permanent employees may participate in an annual bonus scheme subject to program conditions.
