Specialist – HPD & ENC Database

Job Overview

The Specialist role involves managing and maintaining the Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC), alongside related paper charts. This position supports safe navigation and marine data governance by ensuring the proper processing, validation, quality control, and timely delivery of hydrographic survey data aligned with International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards and organizational quality assurance protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate and validate hydrographic survey data into HPD and ENC products following IHO standards and approved company procedures.
• Maintain marine geospatial databases, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of navigational and operational information.
• Assist with compiling, quality checking, and submitting ENC updates to appropriate authorities and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with hydrographic survey teams and marine operations for prompt incorporation of survey results into databases.
• Manage charting workflows, including version control and dissemination to internal and external users.
• Ensure adherence to relevant IHO, IMO, and regional hydrographic regulations.
• Create, edit, and maintain ENC cells using authorized charting and GIS software tools.
• Conduct data validation, perform quality assurance checks, and resolve errors as stipulated by ENC and HPD production standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Nautical Cartography, Hydrographic Surveying, GIS, Geography, Marine Surveying, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in Marine GIS, ENC/HPD data production and hydrographic processing.
• Strong familiarity with ENC production standards, including IHO S-57 and S-101, along with HPD concepts, data creation, editing, and validation.
• Hands-on proficiency with CARIS BathyDataBase and SevenCs ENC Composer software platforms.
• Thorough understanding of hydrographic survey data formats, S-57/S-101 toolkits, ENC/HPD production workflows, and compliance with S-100 standards.
• Expertise in GIS spatial data analysis, validation, and database management.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear reporting and stakeholder interaction.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary marine and technical teams, offering support and maintaining professional demeanor even under confrontational scenarios.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision while effectively managing defined objectives.
• Knowledge of maritime domain terminology and terminologies.
• Computer literate with familiarity in working with communication systems and navigation aids.
