Job description

About the Firm

This highly-regarded boutique law firm located in Melbourne's CBD boasts an excellent reputation, representing a sophisticated client base that includes global automotive manufacturers, FMCG, food and beverage companies, aged care and education institutions (including independent schools), transport and logistics operators, and clients in property, recruitment, technology, as well as SME clients and senior executives across various industries. The employment and workplace relations practice is part of a broader, highly profitable commercial division, collaborating closely with colleagues on cross-referred and joint matters. The firm prides itself on a supportive culture that values flexibility, collaboration, respect, and integrity.

Role Scope

  • Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, workplace policies, procedures, and enterprise agreements.
  • Providing advice on redundancies, business sales, and corporate restructurings.
  • Managing claims related to unfair dismissal, adverse action, general protections, and workplace bullying or harassment.
  • Advising on modern award compliance and statutory employment obligations.
  • Engaging with senior executives on relevant employment matters.

While the existing practice is well-established, there is significant potential to expand services to institutional clients within the firm.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong technical expertise in workplace relations and employment law from experience at a reputable firm.
  • Suitable for senior associate or special counsel candidates approaching partnership seeking growth opportunities, or for lateral partners with existing client followings.
  • A keen interest in business development to help grow the practice by leveraging established firm relationships.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for practice management and contributing to broader firm development, beyond individual client files.

Flexibility & Culture

The firm offers flexible working arrangements including remote and hybrid options to support employees' work-life balance.
