Special Counsel, Financial Lines

About the Role

Kennedys is inviting applications for an experienced Special Counsel to become a key member of our Financial Lines practice based in Melbourne. You will collaborate closely with Nicole Wearne, Australian Managing Partner, and Mark Attard, Partner, both highly regarded figures in the insurance legal arena. This role focuses on advising insurers on intricate professional indemnity, directors' and officers' liability, and coverage challenges across Australia.

Responsibilities

In this senior position, you will engage with a diverse range of financial lines cases, representing both local and London market insurers. Your work will involve:

• Managing professional indemnity claims spanning multiple professions, including the construction sector
• Handling directors' and officers' liability claims and related investigations
• Navigating complex policy coverage and interpretation disputes
• Resolving financial lines disputes and overseeing regulatory inquiries

Candidate Profile

We are seeking seasoned insurance lawyers with:

• Extensive expertise in financial lines insurance
• Strong background in professional indemnity and directors' & officers' liability matters
• Demonstrated proficiency in advising on policy coverage questions
• Experience dealing with construction-related professional indemnity claims
• Excellent client management and matter handling skills
• A leadership style that emphasizes collaboration and mentoring of junior team members
