Sous Chef

About the Role

Join Qatar Airways' Qatar Duty Free team, located at Hamad International Airport in Doha, one of the world's largest duty-free shopping areas. As a Sous Chef, you will support the Line Manager in overseeing kitchen operations, managing the department as a profitable unit while meeting daily operational needs. You'll effectively represent the kitchen when the Executive Sous Chef is unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and present food consistently to internal and external customers, adhering to standard recipes. Assist the Executive Sous Chef during chef's table and tasting events.
• Lead and participate in food preparation and cooking, ensuring quality and portion control before serving to maintain consistent standards.
• Monitor food usage and expiry dates strictly to minimize waste and maintain food cost control. Ensure all cooking stations, storage areas, refrigeration units, and waste disposal are clean and hygienic.
• Plan food production to meet demand and maintain freshness and presentation, using batch cooking techniques.
• Act as Deputy to the Executive Sous Chef in their absence.
• Carry out additional department duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree.
• Certified in Catering or Professional Cookery.
• Training or certification in HACCP or ISO 22000 standards.
• Current experience as a Sous Chef in a comparable international hospitality environment such as a hotel, restaurant, or airport.
• Experience with major 5-star hotels or upscale, high-end restaurants.
• Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience.
