Job description
About the Company
The Hoxton, Bangalore is preparing to launch its inaugural hotel in Asia, situated in the vibrant heart of Bengaluru's city centre, known as India's Silicon Valley. Opening in 2026, this venue will embody The Hoxton's distinctive brand DNA—providing 149 rooms across various beloved categories, an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a rooftop pool and bar, expansive event spaces, and The Apartment, a unique meeting and events concept. The Hoxton is more than just a hotel chain; it aims to create inviting neighbourhood hubs where guests mingle with locals in lively public spaces, harmonizing style and value.
Role Overview
We seek a curious, personable, and expert Sommelier to craft and elevate the wine experience at The Hoxton Bengaluru City. The successful candidate will design a wine list with character, assist guests in selecting wines they genuinely enjoy, and empower the team to discuss wine confidently without pretension.
Responsibilities
- Develop and regularly update a well-rounded, appealing, and commercially viable wine selection for the hotel's dining areas, bars, and special events.
- Offer personalized wine recommendations by attentively understanding guests' preferences and explaining choices in an accessible manner.
- Provide confident and relaxed wine service, including pairing, decanting, and bottle presentation as needed.
- Grow sales through authentic expertise, engaging narratives, and considerate suggestions instead of aggressive selling.
- Oversee wine procurement, receiving, storage, stock rotation, and inventory to maintain quality and availability.
- Analyze wine sales performance and revenue trends to optimize the wine list, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.
- Train and mentor F&B staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, pairing principles, and recommendation skills.
- Organize wine tastings, events, and collaborations that engage visitors and foster a lively, social wine culture.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and stay informed about emerging producers, regions, and industry trends.
- Collaborate closely with chefs and F&B management to ensure harmonious pairing of food and wine offerings.
Preferred Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- A genuine individual seeking a welcoming workplace that values authenticity and diversity.
- A passion for hospitality encompassing drinks, dining, events, and accommodation.
- Commitment to leaving a memorable positive impact on every guest.
- A team player with a humble approach, ready to contribute actively toward shared goals.
- An openness to innovation and willingness to explore new experiences.
- A vibrant personality, capable of cultivating camaraderie and a fun atmosphere.
- Proven background working as a sommelier or in a wine-centered role within a restaurant or bar environment.
- Robust understanding of major wine regions, grape varieties, styles, and food pairings, with a continuous desire to expand knowledge.
- Certification such as WSET Level 2 or 3, CMS, or equivalent is highly regarded.
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness regarding pricing strategies, stock control, and revenue generation.
- Demonstrated ability to train teams and organize engaging tastings or wine-related events.
What We Offer
- The unique chance to contribute significantly to launching The Hoxton's first Indian and Asian hotel, shaping its success from the ground up.
- Be part of an innovative and rapidly growing international hospitality group committed to building a global lifestyle brand.
- An encouraging and creative work environment that values challenging conventions and rewarding performance.
- Join a passionate team dedicated to delivering exceptional hospitality experiences.
- Attractive discounts across the entire Ennismore group, retained even after employment ends.
- A competitive compensation package with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
