Job description

About the Role

This position entails leading engineering efforts within the Core Maps Platform at Google, requiring strong technical and managerial capabilities. The role involves managing multiple teams and coordinating large-scale project deployments internationally, focusing on delivering precise and useful mapping products like Google Maps, Earth, Street View, and the Google Maps Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate team objectives aligned with organizational goals, synchronizing strategies, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear performance and development expectations with team members, conducting regular feedback and coaching sessions tailored to individual roles and levels.
  • Develop and evolve a mid-term technical vision and roadmap for one or more teams to address future system requirements and infrastructure demands.
  • Lead design, evaluation, and validation of system architectures within the larger organizational context while writing code to tackle complex, ill-defined challenges.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold best practices including adherence to style standards, code quality, testability, efficiency, and proper version control.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years in software development.
  • At least 3 years of technical leadership experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience managing people or leading teams.
  • Experience incorporating generative AI tools or large language model interfaces into workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Three years' experience navigating complex, matrixed organizational environments.
