Job description
About Cable
Cable is an innovative Australian electricity company offering battery-backed electricity supplied 24/7 at prices 20–40% lower than traditional providers. We deliver tailor-made "firm" electricity by integrating fully-funded behind-the-meter batteries with our proprietary software platform designed for a distributed and decarbonised energy future.
We're transitioning from concept to a fully operating electricity retailer serving real residential and commercial customers, and scaling rapidly. As an early engineer, you'll shape Cable's platform, driving the future of energy delivery.
Role and Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of significant product areas from business challenges to designing interfaces, data models, and backend systems, ensuring reliability with real users.
- Work daily with coding agents to scope tasks, provide necessary context, evaluate outputs, and convert successful outcomes into workflows for the team.
- Collaborate closely with energy specialists and GTM teams who also develop software to build a scalable platform enabling smooth production deployments.
- Establish key engineering principles balancing careful design in critical areas like security and billing with simpler solutions where appropriate.
- Address complex energy-related challenges involving meter data, wholesale pricing, and weather by transforming data into impactful software products aligned with business operations.
Technical Environment
Our modern, serverless technology stack consists of TypeScript, React, and Postgres complemented by AI-driven development workflows, giving you considerable influence over architectural evolution.
Candidate Profile
- Enthusiasm for contributing to Cable and our mission.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in shipping software at startups or mature engineering organizations.
- Strong proficiency across the modern full-stack development lifecycle, capable of delivering from vague requirements to polished, dependable solutions.
- Proficient in AI-native development practices, leveraging multiple coding agents and continuously enhancing workflows.
- Sound engineering judgment with a focus on production quality, system resilience, and maintainability.
- Adaptability and ownership: comfortable making informed decisions amid ambiguity and iterating rapidly in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Additional advantage: experience handling large-scale time-series data, billing or accounting systems, and transactional data models.
What We Offer
- A close-knit, driven team with challenging problems and high standards.
- Significant personal growth and leadership potential with deep product responsibility.
- Access to expert advisors and skilled colleagues in energy and commercial domains.
- Competitive compensation and employee stock ownership plans.
Inclusion and Diversity
We value diverse perspectives and are committed to building products that serve all people. Our inclusive hiring practices ensure no discrimination based on race, religion, color, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability.
