About Sephora and the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our User Squad responsible for designing and developing backend services and scalable distributed systems. You will help deliver reliable, personalized user and loyalty experiences to Sephora’s 1.4 million monthly active users through our Ecommerce platforms. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and involves working on high-profile projects that directly influence customer lifetime value, a key performance indicator.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement robust, scalable backend services and distributed systems.
- Provide dependable user and loyalty functionality across the Southeast Asia and Oceania Ecommerce system.
- Contribute to projects impacting customer retention and lifetime value metrics.
- Develop and maintain event-driven integrations among microservices.
- Create personalized and localized user experiences for multiple countries in the region.
- Leverage modern AI-assisted and structured development tools to enhance productivity and ensure code quality.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience building production backend applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
- Strong command of relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- In-depth knowledge of Java technologies including Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, and Gradle.
- Experience with event streaming technologies like Kafka and/or message queue systems such as RabbitMQ.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) and structured AI development practices.
- Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with frontend frameworks such as VueJS or NuxtJS is advantageous.
