About the Sandbox Service Team
This team is responsible for building and maintaining a secure and scalable system that provides our models with controlled, safe access to computational environments. This infrastructure supports critical workloads such as training and product operations, enabling models to execute code, build software, utilize tools, and manage applications with user interfaces. Their work involves provisioning containers and virtual machines across large-scale clusters and ensuring interactive control by models over remote environments. Responsibilities span the entire technology stack from managing large job orchestration and resource scheduling at cluster scale to optimizing filesystem performance on nodes. The Sandbox service is essential for enabling the Grok model to execute and test code in real time and supports reinforcement learning processes where models interactively explore diverse tools including compilers and productivity applications.
The Role
This position involves engaging in highly technical tasks within a fast-paced environment that values rapid iteration while maintaining reliability and performance. Candidates should have major expertise in at least the following areas:
- Proficiency in Rust, C++, or Go programming languages
- Working knowledge of Python
- Extensive experience with Linux or Windows operating systems, with familiarity with both being advantageous
- Hands-on experience with virtualization and container technologies such as cgroups, KVM, gVisor, and QEMU
- Strong understanding of networking stacks
Interview Process
Applications are reviewed based on the candidate's statement of exceptional work and CV. Successful applicants will be invited to a 15-minute initial interview featuring basic technical questions. Candidates passing this stage enter the main interview phase, which includes:
- A coding assessment in Rust or C++
- An interview focused on distributed systems design
