Job description
Company Overview
UpGuard is revolutionizing cyber risk management by replacing tedious manual security processes with AI-powered precision. After recently securing US$75 million in Series C funding, the company is rapidly scaling its infrastructure to handle over 100 billion risk signals daily. It develops the Cyber Risk Posture Management (CRPM) platform that integrates security ratings, threat intelligence, and advanced AI to help organizations proactively manage their evolving attack surfaces.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple Product Engineering teams. You will stay hands-on by developing features within a squad, while influencing broader architectural and scaling decisions spanning several teams. You will elevate engineering standards by mentoring, driving code reviews, and collaborating closely with leadership to shape the technology roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Develop software features actively on a squad, grounding strategic direction in practical implementation and user needs.
- Define and own cross-team architecture and technical direction impacting multiple squads.
- Lead resolution of challenging scaling and data architecture challenges as we approach processing 100 billion risk signals daily.
- Improve engineering quality across the organization via code standards, peer review processes, and mentoring senior engineers.
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to shape not just how but what products to build.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in technology-centric, product-focused companies.
- Proficient with TypeScript and React for front-end development.
- Productive in at least one backend language, preferably Go.
- Strong skills in relational databases, especially Postgres.
- Experience working with AI-assisted coding tools and the discretion to verify and refine their output.
- Ability to pragmatically balance technical excellence with immediate business needs.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on product and customer outcomes over ego.
- Proven history of leading technical strategy that spans multiple teams and gaining consensus.
- Experience owning complex scaling or architecture challenges end-to-end with significant business impact.
- Comfortable influencing decision-making in a cross-functional setting including product and leadership teams.
Preferred Skills
- Background in cybersecurity domain.
- Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes, ideally on Google Cloud Platform.
- Exposure to data engineering, large-scale scanning, crawling, or other high-throughput systems.
- Experience evolving architecture and team culture through scaling from monoliths to services owned by squads.
- Track record of collaboratively building complex applications or systems from inception with cross-functional teams.
Benefits and Perks
- Monthly lifestyle allowance supporting financial, physical, and mental well-being.
- Home office setup reimbursement within the first three months.
- USD 1500 annual learning and development budget for career growth opportunities.
- Paid time off including annual leave plus two additional company leave days.
- 18 weeks of paid parental leave regardless of parenting role.
- Personal leave covering sick and carer’s leave.
- Fully remote working environment with optional in-office locations in Sydney and Hobart.
- Provision of high-end laptops tailored to team members' roles.
- Subscription support for generative AI tools to enhance work productivity.
- Stock options allowing employees to share in company growth and success.
