They are expanding their capabilities with a strong growth trajectory centered on innovation and customer impact.
About The Role
The Cloud Services Value Stream at Gallagher is advancing, and they seek a Software Engineering Lead to oversee the engineering team behind AccessNow, a cloud-based security product. This role offers an opportunity to lead engineering efforts, combining technical guidance, team leadership, and responsibility for developing secure, reliable, and quality software.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, this role collaborates closely with Product, Architecture, and Quality teams to define the future technical direction of AccessNow, improving engineering practices, and building a high-performance team capable of delivering product evolution confidently.
Responsibilities
- Lead a specialized engineering area within the AccessNow squad, guiding design, architecture, delivery, risk management, quality, and software lifecycle considerations.
- Oversee engineering delivery by ensuring detailed planning, managing risks and dependencies, and meeting commitments reliably.
- Enhance engineering capabilities through coaching, mentoring, setting clear expectations, giving constructive feedback, and supporting career growth.
- Collaborate with Product, UX/UI Design, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, Security, and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions.
- Support teams in making balanced technical decisions considering delivery timelines, quality, risk, cost, compliance, and maintainability.
- Promote continuous improvement, modern engineering techniques, automation, standards, and overall team effectiveness.
About You
You are a seasoned engineering leader, or a senior engineer aspiring to deepen your leadership role. You demonstrate strong technical judgment, curiosity, and the assurance to guide technical decisions, delivery priorities, and organizational changes. You excel at navigating ambiguity, increasing visibility of work, eliminating obstacles, and enabling teams to deliver predictably while fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
Excellent collaboration, clear communication skills, and the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders are key traits.
Ideal Qualifications
- Extensive full-stack engineering experience, with deep expertise in a core technical area and familiarity with related systems and technologies.
- Experience in leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers through clear expectations, feedback, and support.
- Ability to strike a balance between technical excellence and delivery, including quality, risk management, cost-efficiency, compliance, and long-term maintainability.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and influencing skills to work across diverse stakeholder groups.
- A mindset geared towards continuous improvement and eagerness to explore new tools, automation, standards, engineering practices, and industry trends.
Working at Gallagher
Gallagher nurtures a collaborative and innovative environment that values continuous improvement. This role enables direct influence on the architecture, design, development, and delivery of the AccessNow product and supporting platforms. You will collaborate with passionate colleagues across product, UX, platform, and engineering teams in a culture that prizes curiosity, trust, practical problem-solving, and balance for professional and personal growth.
Additional Benefits
- Competitive salary and performance bonuses.
- Hybrid work flexibility requiring a minimum of three days onsite per week, with additional onsite days as needed.
- KiwiSaver contributions extra to salary and Life & Disability insurance.
- Opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.
- Supportive team culture featuring team-building activities and an enjoyable work environment.
