Job Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer to become a key member of our Decisioning Software team. This position involves developing and refining Experian’s proprietary decisioning software that supports organisations in making intelligent, rapid decisions globally. The role is based in Nottingham with a hybrid work pattern: approximately 40% office attendance, reporting to the Engineering Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software primarily using Java.
  • Create new functionalities and improve existing features within Experian's decisioning platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, fellow Engineers, Architects, and other stakeholders to deliver robust solutions.
  • Engage in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Produce clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code.
  • Partake in code reviews and technical discussions to uphold quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues as necessary.
  • Contribute to continuous advancement of engineering practices, tooling, and processes.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficient programming skills in Java.
  • Sound understanding of object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
  • Experienced with source control tools such as Git.
  • History of working effectively in Agile development teams.
  • Awareness of automated testing and quality assurance techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in backend development, including API design.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and modern application architectures.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with relational database systems.
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale application development.
