Job description

Role Overview

Join a team focused on developing, maintaining, and operating analytics and optimisation software within the energy technology sector. This position values technical aptitude, reliability, and the capability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Core Duties

  • Design and implement software modules along with data processing components.
  • Engage in analytical tasks involving mathematical modeling, time-series datasets, and optimisation processes.
  • Research algorithms, data structures, and related mathematical concepts as required.
  • Support troubleshooting, debugging, and performance improvements of systems.
  • Work collaboratively with senior engineers and diverse stakeholders while managing responsibilities autonomously.
  • Produce clear and concise technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field with coursework involving software development.
  • Strong foundation in programming principles including control flow, data structures, and computational complexity.
  • Hands-on experience in Python programming to develop, test, debug, and maintain code for analytics, data processing, automation, APIs, and research/prototype software.
  • Familiarity with at least one additional high-level programming language is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments and using command-line tools in academic or commercial settings.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with creative and logical thinking around algorithms and software systems.
  • Ability to work methodically, think independently, and confidently articulate technical views to non-technical team members in complex technical discussions.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of time-series data, analytics pipelines, and fundamental statistical techniques.
  • Exposure to various database models such as relational, NoSQL/document-oriented, key-value, and time-series databases, with an emphasis on knowing their appropriate use cases rather than specific products.
  • Competency in SQL and relational data modeling; familiarity with time-series database query and storage methodologies is beneficial.
  • Experience handling APIs, data streams, or message queuing systems.
  • Optional: familiarity with Rust, C/C++, or Go for performance-critical and integration tasks.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies, specifically Docker.
  • Basic exposure to cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proficient skills in debugging and resolving software issues across different system layers.
  • An interest in mathematics, machine learning concepts, large language models, and current AI trends, with some mathematical or programming insight being advantageous but not essential.
  • Quick learner with a proactive and inquisitive mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
