Job description
About the Role
Join Prematch to revolutionize amateur football by providing a trusted digital platform for football data. Every weekend, millions experience football moments, and we ensure those moments are accurately represented digitally.
Position Details
- Start date: Immediate
- Work location: Hybrid options with offices in Cologne, Berlin, London, or fully remote within the EU/UK
- Employment type: Full-time
- Team: Core Systems
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain the accuracy of football data including results, lineups, goals, appearances, stats, and market values, ensuring app data aligns precisely with real-life match events and user feedback.
- Develop and operate Python-based data processing services and pipelines that convert diverse match data into structured teams, player stats, and market values, prepared for peak usage times like weekends.
- Implement data quality measures through validation, monitoring, and alerting systems, identifying and resolving root causes of data inconsistencies rather than just symptoms.
- Become an expert in grassroots football data nuances such as age groups, seasonal changes, and data irregularities, using this understanding to enforce robust system rules.
- Focus on the end-user experience by ensuring data correctness impacts players’ and clubs’ perception positively.
- Collaborate on evolving data models, assist data and business teams with technical data requests, and build internal tools to empower support and product teams in managing data.
Who You Are
- Experienced software engineer with 5+ years focusing on data engineering, maintaining ownership of production datasets or pipelines.
- Proficient in writing production-grade Python code, including tests and participating in code reviews.
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills, primarily with PostgreSQL or comparable databases.
- Expertise in assuring data quality through active monitoring, checks, and gap analysis for datasets containing inconsistent and changing information.
- Comfortable working independently within a complex, mature codebase by investigating historical records and git logs.
- Effective communicator who can articulate data challenges clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable using and reviewing AI coding tools like Claude Code, integrating them into daily workflows with accountability for delivery.
- Genuine curiosity about grassroots football, keen to learn its operations deeply.
- Fluent in English, as it is the primary language, with a multicultural environment also including German, Spanish, Dutch, and others.
Preferred Extras
- Experience creating and maintaining ingestion pipelines from external sources such as club websites, managing source changes effectively.
- Personal football background as a player, coach, or club administrator.
- Experience designing dashboards or reports for audiences without technical expertise.
- Exposure to frontend or mobile development, Flutter experience is a plus, to trace data flows from backend to user interface.
What We Offer
- Employee participation plan (VSOP) to share company success.
- Modern technology environment with tools to maximize productivity.
- Integration of AI tools into daily work for enhanced efficiency.
- 27 days of annual vacation and additional arrangements for parents to balance work-life.
- Flexible remote work policy, including hybrid office options or up to 100% remote for technical roles.
- Choice among offices in Cologne, Berlin, and London, plus a vibrant virtual team culture.
- Opportunities to work from various locations, supporting lifestyle flexibility.
- Regular team events and offsite retreats to foster team spirit and collaboration.
