Role Overview

The Cargo Movements division manages key data pipelines essential to Kpler’s operations. As part of this team, you will contribute to the advancement of backend data platforms and related services. Your tasks will involve integrating various data sources, implementing algorithms for processing large volumes of data, and making these datasets accessible to both in-house and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance backend services, data flows, APIs, and front-end features within the framework of project requirements and architectural guidelines.
• Produce code that is clean, secure, maintainable, and thoroughly tested, conforming to engineering standards and best practices.
• Engage in technical design conversations by asking pertinent questions and assessing implementation impacts.
• Debug and diagnose issues in development and production environments using logs, metrics, and tools; escalate complex challenges as needed.
• Contribute to system resilience and efficiency improvements by aiding monitoring, testing, deployment, and operational processes.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, analysts, and data scientists to refine requirements and deliver reliable software capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews actively by offering constructive feedback and considering suggestions for your work.
• Document technical features, operational procedures, and implementation rationale clearly and maintainably where applicable.

Candidate Profile

• Proficient in Python programming for building workflows involving data processing, transformation, or integration.
• Solid understanding of data integration concepts and ETL methodologies including batch, asynchronous, and streaming data pipelines.
• Experienced in using SQL and relational database management systems.
• Familiarity with developing and maintaining backend APIs and services.
• Keen knowledge of software development best practices such as version control with Git, code review processes, automated testing, and continuous integration/delivery pipelines.
• Capability to write readable, maintainable code aligned with engineering best standards.
• Basic working knowledge of containerization tools like Docker.
• Skillful in troubleshooting technical challenges, raising blockers, and ensuring smooth performance of production systems.
• An enthusiastic learner open to exploring new technologies, tools, and business sectors.
• Adept at working effectively with multifunctional teams including product, engineering, analytics, and data science groups.
• Fluent communicator in English, both written and spoken.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with additional backend languages or platforms such as Node.js, Scala, Java, or other JVM-based languages.
• Exposure to front-end development using contemporary frameworks, preferentially Vue.js combined with TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Familiarity with cloud services like AWS or other prominent cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of message-brokers or event streaming tools such as Kafka.
• Experience working with search and indexing platforms, for example Elasticsearch.
