Job description
About the Role
The MongoDB Customer Observability Team focuses on providing tools and platforms to help users monitor and manage MongoDB deployments at a global scale. This team supports MongoDB Atlas, our fastest expanding database-as-a-service solution, enabling users to rapidly deploy distributed MongoDB clusters worldwide. We are searching for a Software Engineer 3 to tackle advanced challenges in the domain of Observability.
Responsibilities
You will design, develop, and maintain components related to Customer Observability. You will contribute to medium-scale technical projects and guide them to production. Working closely with customers and support engineers, you will help resolve issues and participate in on-call duties. Additionally, you will collaborate with a diverse engineer group to enhance coding best practices, operational systems, and participate in technical discussions to overcome engineering challenges.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate enjoys teamwork, is approachable and intellectually curious, and typically has backend engineering expertise with openness to frontend work or full-stack roles leaning towards backend tasks. Experience writing backend systems in compiled languages like Java, C#, or Go is required. Candidates should have a sound understanding of modern, scalable web application architectures and be adept at debugging and troubleshooting production problems. Strong grasp of algorithms and data structures, along with their efficiency considerations, is essential.
Preferred Skills
Experience with coding observability tools, knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Node.js, particularly in maintaining dependency ecosystems, as well as an interest in database internals like indexing and tuning mechanisms, are advantageous.
Success Metrics
- Within the first month: Acquaint yourself with owned systems, current features, and ongoing projects, contributing small tasks.
- Within three months: Take part actively in project design and development, regularly pushing updates.
- Within six months: Handle medium to larger projects independently, lead technical discussions, enhance the codebase proactively, support customers during escalations, and participate in the on-call rotation.
