Role Overview

We are looking for a driven and skilled Software Development Engineer to join the S3 Index team at Amazon Development Centre Canada ULC. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining the next-generation S3 Index architecture, essential for managing storage durability, availability, and scalability across Amazon S3’s enormous data infrastructure. Your contributions will enhance the performance and dependability of a globally significant distributed storage system that handles trillions of objects and billions of daily transactions. Collaboration with expert engineers and leaders will be central to building systems that handle dynamic usage patterns and extraordinary load demands, ensuring seamless and dependable storage services for customers.

Responsibilities

• Engage proactively with multiple teams to guarantee smooth daily service operations.
• Create innovative solutions aligned with defined technical strategies and make service-level trade-offs.
• Develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems managing capacity growth, heat management, and data durability for the S3 Index.
• Design and implement features for efficient, secure customer access and primary key writing for S3 objects.
• Maintain high-quality standards via rigorous testing, code reviews, and automation to meet demanding AWS customer requirements.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support service availability and promptly resolve operational issues.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years’ professional software development experience beyond internships.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language.
• Preferred: over 3 years of full software development lifecycle experience, covering coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science or related field highly preferred.
• Open to candidates with diverse, non-traditional backgrounds or alternative career paths.
