About the Role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 is a globally trusted cloud storage service managing trillions of objects with unmatched durability and performance. The S3 Index team develops software that ensures metadata durability and availability at massive scale, addressing complex computer science challenges while supporting customer workloads with highly available systems.
As a Software Development Engineer in S3, you will contribute to building and operating the next generation of S3 Index systems, directly impacting AWS customers worldwide. Ownership is central to the role, requiring commitment to code quality, thorough testing, operational reliability, and participating in on-call rotations to maintain service excellence.
Responsibilities
You will engage actively with multiple internal teams to support daily operations, develop solutions aligned with technical strategies, and make architecture decisions to balance reliability, scalability, and performance. The S3 Index Control Plane team manages services and tools that orchestrate capacity growth, heat management, and data durability to ensure consistent access to S3 object primary keys at scale.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience beyond internships.
- At least 2 years of experience in designing or architecting systems, including applying design patterns and scalability considerations.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language to develop robust software solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience covering the full software development life cycle: coding standards, peer code reviews, source control, automated builds, testing, and production operations.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or a related field.
