Software Development Engineer - PostgreSQL Contributors

Overview

As part of UC, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of diverse AWS services including Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity applications, incorporating specialized security solutions for cloud customers.

Role Summary

The AWS RDS PostgreSQL Contributors team is seeking a remote Software Development Engineer specializing in PostgreSQL internals and community collaboration. This role involves partnering with the PostgreSQL open source community, contributing directly to the core engine code primarily written in C, and engaging actively on PostgreSQL mailing list discussions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review PostgreSQL core engine features, bug fixes, drivers, extensions, and patches.
• Participate in patch reviews, testing, security audits, performance tuning, benchmarking, and commitfest dialogues.
• Engage with the PostgreSQL developer community on architectural designs, issue resolution, and project discussions via public mailing lists.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years professional software development experience beyond internships.
• At least 5 years programming in one or more software languages.
• Experience exceeding 5 years in leading system design including design patterns, reliability, and scalability.
• Documented significant contributions to PostgreSQL with a minimum of 30 mentions in the PostgreSQL project git logs spanning over 8 years (mandatory).

Preferred Qualifications

• Comprehensive experience throughout software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
