Role Overview

The Software Development Engineer position within the Backend/API team involves creating and managing scalable and robust backend systems that support various consumer-facing platforms globally. The role focuses on building high-throughput, low-latency services and APIs essential to core product functionalities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that operate at high scale, ensuring reliability and optimized performance.
• Assume end-to-end ownership of projects, including requirement gathering, system design, implementation, deployment, and production maintenance.
• Create both high-level and detailed system designs, articulating architectural decisions and trade-offs clearly.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code for backend components.
• Develop and refine distributed systems that are fault-tolerant, resilient, and observable in live environments.
• Enhance current systems to improve performance, reduce latency, increase scalability, and optimize cost-efficiency.
• Utilize strong problem-solving abilities and expertise in data structures to engineer efficient solutions.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to develop backend features aligned with evolving product requirements.
• Engage actively in code and design reviews to uphold high engineering standards.
• Drive ongoing improvements in system reliability, developer productivity, and engineering practices within the team.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• 4 to 8 years of experience in developing backend software systems in production settings.
• Proficient programming skills in one or more backend languages, with a preference for Java.
• Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and their application in distributed and backend systems.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems emphasizing scalability, availability, and reliability.
• Practical knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or similar environments.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including data modeling and performance considerations.
• Understanding of contemporary AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), and integrating AI functionalities into backend software.
• Familiarity with using AI tools to build, enhance, or manage software solutions, such as LLM-driven APIs, prompt-based workflows, automation, and developer productivity tools.
• Ability to independently take ownership and deliver end-to-end system solutions with minimal oversight.
