Job description
Role Overview
Simfluent's platform automates the entire recruitment process utilizing five AI agents, a comprehensive 22-stage candidate workflow, and seamless integrations with Lever ATS, SendGrid, and various job boards. As a Software Developer on the Platform team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining features across the backend API, asynchronous worker infrastructure, and third-party integrations that support enterprise clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain REST API endpoints with FastAPI for managing recruiter pipelines, candidate data, job configurations, and third-party webhook integrations.
- Design and implement PostgreSQL data schemas focusing on schema planning, indexing strategies, and query optimization through tools like EXPLAIN ANALYZE; manage migrations using Alembic.
- Ensure multi-tenant data access integrity by implementing correct tenant_id scoping to prevent cross-tenant data access and guarantee feature isolation from inception.
- Construct asynchronous worker tasks leveraging AWS SQS and Celery, including task design, retry mechanisms, idempotency, and dead-letter queue management to automate pipeline workflows.
- Develop and enhance third-party integrations such as Lever ATS webhooks, SendGrid inbound/outbound parsing, IMAP polling for job-watch inboxes, and managing document storage with AWS S3.
- Maintain thorough testing practices including unit, integration, and asynchronous webhook handler tests as part of the development cycle.
- Engage in architecture planning, conduct code reviews, document technical decisions clearly, and proactively address quality issues.
- Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve production incidents, author runbooks, and lead post-mortems.
Requirements
- Expertise in Python programming with at least 4 years of backend development experience.
- Proficiency with FastAPI framework and asynchronous programming paradigms using asyncio.
- Strong skills in SQLAlchemy ORM, Pydantic, and PostgreSQL database management.
- Experience in database schema design, indexing, query performance tuning using EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and database migrations via Alembic.
- Knowledge of multi-tenant software architecture ensuring secure and isolated data access.
- Hands-on experience with AWS SQS, Celery, or similar asynchronous messaging/task queue systems.
- Familiarity with REST API integrations, including OAuth and webhook protocols.
- Competence in writing automated tests using pytest and testing asynchronous workflows.
- Understanding of system design principles, failure modes, edge cases, and observability best practices.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with React frontend development.
- Knowledge of vector databases such as pgvector and AI/ML integrations including AWS Bedrock and large language model (LLM) integration.
- Expertise in multi-tenant SaaS application architecture.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience building production-level Python backend services rather than simple scripting.
- Proven ability to work with asynchronous task systems and build robust third-party API integrations.
- Strong adherence to testing discipline ensuring comprehensive code coverage.
- Systems thinking mindset with capability to anticipate and mitigate errors and handle complex edge scenarios effectively.
