Job description

About the Role

Helensburgh is a warm and welcoming residential facility situated in the center of Greystones, dedicated to delivering exceptional care and support for four adults aged between 50 and 87 with moderate to high support needs. We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Social Care Worker to join our well-established team. This role is integral to assisting individuals in living with dignity, autonomy, and making their own choices.

This is a great time to become part of Helensburgh as it prepares for future de-congregation initiatives and relocation to a new residence tailored to the evolving requirements of those we care for. You will collaborate with experienced Social Care Workers and Care Assistants, fostering a person-focused, value-driven service within the Greystones community.

The position involves varied working hours, including day shifts, sleepover duties, waking night shifts, weekends, and unsocial hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement a person-centered care approach that aligns with the clients' goals and preferences.
  • Safeguard and promote the rights, dignity, privacy, and choice of those you support.
  • Encourage and facilitate opportunities for clients to engage in community roles and discover new interests.
  • Ensure overall wellness covering health and personal care domains.
  • Support clients in developing life skills such as cooking, budgeting, cleaning, and building self-confidence.

Essential Requirements

  • Possession of a QQI Level 7 qualification in Social Care or an equivalent foreign qualification verified by QQI.
  • Registration with the Social Care Workers Registration Board maintained by CORU, or holding a CORU-approved qualification with registration application evidence, or eligibility for such registration.
  • Strong commitment to empowering and supporting clients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when necessary.
  • Familiarity with HIQA regulations and standards.
  • Excellent organizational capabilities and communication skills.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in role execution.
  • Proficient IT skills and competent report writing abilities.
  • Valid driving license and readiness to operate location vehicles.
  • Discretion and responsibility in handling confidential information.
  • Flexibility to work various rostered shifts over a seven-day cycle.
  • Understanding and experience with therapeutic interventions.

Desirable Attributes

  • At least one year of post-qualification experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience working solo in one-to-one settings as well as part of a team.
  • Familiarity managing complex behaviors that may challenge and applying behavioral support techniques.
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and working with dual diagnosis and complex behavioral cases.
  • Experience with alternative communication methods.
  • Ability to apply creative problem-solving approaches.
