Site Reliability Engineer

Role Overview

McAfee seeks a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to maintain and enhance the performance and dependability of its platforms. The role involves close collaboration with engineering teams to ensure system availability, automate processes that maintain system stability, and swiftly resolve production issues. This position is ideal for an operator passionate about operational excellence and keen to boost the reliability of products protecting millions online.

This position is located in the UK or Ireland, and only candidates currently residing in these areas will be considered. Relocation assistance is not provided, and occasional on-site presence may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate on a rotational schedule working 5 days out of 7, managing content releases 363 days annually.
• Design and develop solutions that enhance software and application reliability, scalability, and speed.
• Install, configure, and test operating systems, application components, and system management tools.
• Develop and automate emergency recovery protocols, deployment plans, post-maintenance validation, and other operational tasks.
• Continuously monitor production environments, apply configuration updates, track performance, and resolve technical incidents.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to automate application and system monitoring, alerting, and availability mechanisms.
• Ensure maximum uptime and availability of systems and infrastructure.
• Contribute as part of an SRE team delivering daily content updates for McAfee’s primary products.
• Develop automation scripts in Python to minimize manual processes and enhance system reliability at scale.
• Create Jenkins/Groovy-based frameworks employing configuration and infrastructure-as-code to streamline release workflows.
• Use AI and agentic tools to assist development tasks and exhibit proficiency in crafting effective prompts.
• Deploy and manage virtualized environments across cloud platforms and on-premises datacenters.
• Partner with product and engineering stakeholders to deliver innovative content package types with high efficiency and effectiveness.
• Design resilient automation and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery processes to shorten incident recovery times.
• Optionally participate in compensated on-call rotations for after-hours escalation support.
• Generate reports on reliability metrics, incident patterns, and improvement efforts for leadership and stakeholders.
• Use Jira to manage work flows and contribute knowledge articles to Confluence for team collaboration.

Candidate Profile

• Possess at least four years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Software Engineering, or associated fields.
• Familiarity with major Cloud Service Providers such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience working with both Windows and macOS operating systems.
• Proficient in scripting languages, especially Python.
• Exhibit a methodical problem-solving approach alongside strong oral and written communication skills, and a drive to take ownership and lead change.
• Comfortable initiating tasks, maintaining accountability, and making decisions when data is limited.
• Influence architectural selections from a perspective centered on operational reliability.
• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
• Adept at managing multiple deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and aligning outcomes with business objectives.
• Experience with collaborative SDLC tools such as Confluence and Jira.
• Determined to identify root causes of issues, learn from them, and foster feedback loops with relevant stakeholders.
• Able to develop, monitor, and analyze metrics related to performance, finances, or complexity for proposed or implemented changes.
• Recognizes the importance of gathering data to support informed, data-driven decisions.
• Adaptable and receptive to cultural and process changes.
• Working knowledge of AI and agentic tools considered an advantage.
