Site Reliability Engineer - AML Platform at TikTok USDS

About the Team

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team for the Applied Machine Learning (AML) unit merges system engineering with machine learning to engineer and operate vast AI/ML systems, such as recommendation engines and large language models, for U.S. users and worldwide territories.

Within this team, individuals gain experience enhancing coding skills, performing system performance evaluations, and managing large-scale system operations. Members also actively participate in hardware and capacity planning decisions. The SRE function focuses on ensuring the highest uptime for critical ML systems by building highly automated pipelines and monitoring tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and sustain systems that are highly accessible, scalable, and resilient to failure.
• Continuously oversee system behavior, detect issues early, and resolve them to prevent disruptions impacting end-users.
• Create and maintain automated solutions for monitoring, alerting, and incident handling.
• Work closely with software developers to design applications that prioritize reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Execute and enforce security best practices while adhering to regulatory compliance measures.
• Participate in on-call duties, offering response support outside regular working hours as needed.
• Perform thorough incident analysis, lead post-incident reviews with stakeholders, and implement strategies to prevent recurrence.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Proven skills in diagnosing and debugging Linux-based distributed systems.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience in SRE or software engineering roles.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, C++, Python, or Go.
• Strong grasp of data structures and algorithmic principles.
• Working knowledge of relational database management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing and managing large-scale computing infrastructures.
• Expertise in code optimization techniques and automating commonplace tasks.
• Familiarity with at least one machine learning framework like TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet, or PaddlePaddle.
