Job description
Role Overview
In the construction sector, the Site Operative/Material Controller plays a vital role in the procurement of materials, managing extensive projects, ensuring rigorous safety standards, and delivering excellent customer service. This position supports ongoing activities across approximately 400 developments, ranging from new builds on brownfield sites to adaptations of existing structures such as former factories and hospitals.
Reporting directly to the Site Manager, the role requires completion of all assigned tasks with precision, adhering closely to company standards and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute on-site tasks as directed by the Site Manager, following company protocols and quality requirements.
- Regularly inspect all signage onsite—including sales, plot, and safety signs—to ensure cleanliness and good condition.
- Take individual accountability for health and safety compliance, promptly reporting any breaches to the Site Manager.
- Oversee protection of installed materials by subcontractors, maintaining safeguards until the final possible moment.
- Maintain the upkeep of the site compound and welfare facilities.
- Ensure all construction plots are kept clean and orderly by all trade teams involved.
- Conduct daily inspections around plots to eliminate surplus materials and ensure waste is separated and recycled according to company guidelines.
- Weekly review of show home gardens and public areas to remove any debris or rubbish.
Candidate Requirements
- A proactive and self-motivated individual capable of working independently and using initiative effectively.
- Experience in large-scale volume housebuilding projects.
- Awareness and understanding of Health and Safety practices within construction sites.
- Possession of a valid CSCS card or an equivalent recognized certification.
