About the Role
This position involves a shift from 06:30 to 14:30, serving as a key member of the maintenance team on a major contract. The handyperson will undertake general upkeep including planned preventative maintenance inspections, statutory safety checks, and minor repairs across the premises. Practical skills in plumbing, building repairs, and low-voltage electrical tasks such as replacing lamps and batteries are essential. The candidate will interact regularly with clients, requiring a proactive mindset, excellent communication, and professional demeanor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned maintenance and prompt minor reactive repairs onsite.
- Attend maintenance requests and breakdowns swiftly.
- Support upkeep of office, commercial, distribution, and industrial facilities.
- Conduct statutory compliance inspections including emergency lighting, water temperature monitoring, and fire door checks with minor repairs.
- Carry out basic plumbing fixes, lighting inspections, and lamp replacements.
- Manage minor building fabric repairs such as painting touch-ups, carpentry work, and adjustments to doors, locks, and furniture.
- Execute basic low-voltage electrical maintenance, including bulb and battery replacements and equipment visual inspections; escalate defects as needed.
- Assist in stock control and store management.
- Collaborate with subcontractors onsite and maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures and Health & Safety legislation.
- Provide exemplary customer service and represent the company professionally at all times.
Candidate Requirements
- Eligible to work in the UK with a full UK driving license.
- Proficient with IT applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, handyperson duties, or related building maintenance roles.
- Skilled in basic plumbing, carpentry, minor decorating, and routine maintenance inspections.
- Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and follow permit-to-work procedures.
- Understanding of planned maintenance schedules and strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Competent in recording work digitally and manually; stores and stock management experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and a forklift license are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Low-voltage electrical awareness to safely complete simple tasks.
Desirable Certifications
- CSCS Card or equivalent.
- Qualifications in maintenance, building services, facilities management, or relevant trades.
- Experience in maintenance or handyperson roles.
- Licenses such as IPAF, PASMA, First Aid at Work, and Manual Handling training.
