Key Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold Singapore workplace safety and health (WSH) laws as well as Evonik's internal occupational safety policies.
- Deliver training sessions on Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) topics, including permits, site inductions, occupational health, and emergency response procedures.
- Create and regularly update safety procedures to ensure compliance with corporate site safety policies, local health regulations, and governmental standards.
- Monitor and evaluate safety and health processes according to Singapore WSH standards.
- Support the Health and Safety Manager by assisting with safety plans, training initiatives, safety meetings, audits, inspections, investigations, contractor evaluations, and management of ESH equipment contracts.
- Assess workplace conditions involving noise, lighting, heat, hazardous substances, and evaluate employee exposure levels.
- Participate in investigating incidents, dangerous occurrences, and occupational illnesses within the workplace.
- Identify potential risks from workplace environments or processes, contribute to risk analyses, and recommend mitigation measures.
- Conduct compliance audits, routine site safety and security rounds, and coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring activities.
- Monitor adherence to work permit protocols such as confined space and hot work permits.
- Maintain and aim to reduce occupational injury and illness rates.
- Promote stronger employee and contractor engagement and awareness regarding safety and at-risk behaviors.
- Coordinate service and maintenance status for fire protection systems, hydrants, emergency call points, CCTV, lightning warning systems, and emergency communication equipment in collaboration with relevant engineering and IT departments.
- Lead the Site Emergency Response Team (ERT), applying expertise drawn from diverse fire safety and operations experiences.
- Organize and participate in annual drills, quarterly training, community exercises, and Mutual Aid Response activities.
- Coordinate fire protection efforts with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and oversee maintenance and compliance of all emergency equipment and personal protective gear.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: "O level" or equivalent.
- Certified to at least an "Advanced Certificate" level under WSH guidelines.
- Practical experience in firefighting, firemen training, and incident response is essential.
- Proven teamwork and decision-making capabilities.
- Strong communication skills, with fluency in English and proficiency in one or more local languages.
- Applicants must be Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents.
- Possess a valid Class 3 driving license to operate emergency response vehicles.
Tools and Working Conditions
- Use of professional firefighting and rescue equipment.
- Utilization of personal protective equipment, including bunker gear, respirators, and Level A/B protective suits.
- Work environment involves exposure to hazardous, toxic, flammable, and explosive chemicals within a chemical plant site.
