Service Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a practical, hands-on Service Technician to join the eShepherd team based in Hamilton. The role involves troubleshooting and resolving technical problems related to our innovative virtual fencing technology for cattle, which employs solar-powered, GPS-enabled neckbands connected via web and mobile apps. This position will have you directly engaging with electronics, firmware, IoT systems, and customer support to ensure smooth product functionality and high customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Prioritize and assess returned eShepherd devices for repair.
• Diagnose faults in electronic hardware down to the component level using tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• Refurbish and test devices before restocking.
• Analyze warranty claims and report failure patterns.
• Perform and validate firmware updates on devices.
• Execute thorough hardware, firmware, and software testing cycles.
• Recreate and clarify customer-reported issues with technical precision.
• Collaborate with Customer Success to address technical inquiries.
• Provide technical training and support to Specialist Partners.
• Maintain detailed documentation of solutions, troubleshooting guides, and service procedures.
• Feed back recurring device faults and field data to Research & Development and Operations teams.
• Contribute to enhancement of service methodologies, diagnostic instruments, and test workflows.

The ideal candidate is analytically minded, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering dependable solutions. Strong communication skills and a keen attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work collaboratively across diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in electronics, electrical engineering, or IT.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing electronic products.
• Proficiency with electronic test instruments.
• Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities.
• Strong organizational skills and meticulousness.
• Confidence in composing technical documents and service notes.
• Proactive mindset with ownership over tasks.
• Experience with connected devices, IoT systems, firmware deployment, CRM tools, or inventory software such as SAP is advantageous.
