Role Summary

The Senior Writer serves as one of SilverStreak's most adept storytellers and is entrusted with the platform's most significant features and delicate topics. This role entails writing across all five main themes, establishing high editorial standards, mentoring fellow writers, and enriching content targeted at readers aged 55 and above. The position is an experienced individual contributor role focused on leadership through exemplary writing.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and produce flagship feature articles, detailed explainers, and poignant human-interest stories covering Health, Lifestyle, People, Retirement, and Home themes.
• Tackle intricate or sensitive matters such as illness, grief, finances, and aging with precision, empathy, and subtlety.
• Generate original well-researched stories inspired by personal ideas, community insights, and newsroom input.
• Maintain high standards in tone, clarity, warmth, and suitability for a mature audience.
• Conduct skilled and empathetic interviews with sources, experts, and community members, accurately conveying their perspectives.
• Perform thorough fact-checking, especially for health, finance, and retirement content, ensuring accuracy and care.
• Adhere to and aid in evolving the SilverStreak style guide to sustain a coherent voice.
• Mentor junior staff writers and contributors by exemplifying best practices and delivering constructive evaluations.
• Assist the Editor in shaping content briefs, suggesting story angles, and editing peer submissions.
• Guide and support a network of contributors from the silver generation.
• Prepare stories for publishing including formatting, captioning, image selection, and basic search engine optimization.
• Adapt materials for social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, as well as newsletters and video when applicable.
• Incorporate feedback from performance analytics to refine storytelling approaches over time.
• Contribute to the creation of video and multimedia content through scripting, interviewing, and shot-list preparation for YouTube and social platforms.
• Scout and assess locations for shoots and events, accounting for accessibility, lighting, sound, and the needs of older participants.
• Coordinate shoot logistics including scheduling interviewees, drafting run sheets, and providing on-site support during filming.
• Support content efforts related to SilverStreak Social events and brand partnerships from initial planning through event execution.

Qualifications & Skills

• A minimum of five years' experience in journalism, feature writing, or editorial content creation with a portfolio showcasing remarkable work.
• A compelling and distinctive command of English writing across features, essays, and reports.
• Advanced research and interviewing abilities alongside sound judgement handling sensitive issues.
• A genuine understanding and respect for an audience aged 55 and older; first-hand experience within the silver generation is highly regarded.
• A collaborative spirit demonstrated by mentoring and elevating the writing team.
• Highly organized and dependable, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines independently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Singapore’s media environment, healthcare sector, or aging-related topics.
• Experience producing long-form, investigative, or branded content.
• Skills in photography, video production, or newsletter management.
• Proficiency in a second language commonly spoken by Singapore’s silver community.
