Role Overview

We seek experienced Senior Web & Video Player Engineers proficient in JavaScript and web video playback, adept at crafting and maintaining scalable, robust streaming experiences across web and Connected TV platforms (e.g., Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, Comcast boxes). This role is ideal for candidates passionate about managing playback quality from end to end while working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to deliver dependable video experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop video player functionalities for web and Connected TV environments.
  • Build and enhance video player modules utilizing frameworks like Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka.
  • Identify and resolve playback issues including buffering, latency, and challenges intrinsic to live streams.
  • Assess player performance and Quality of Experience (QoE) data to detect and fix playback problems.
  • Contribute to player development in React Native for multi-device and CTV applications.
  • Create automated tests (unit and end-to-end) and interact with RESTful APIs to ensure seamless playback integration.
  • Work closely with diverse teams adopting agile workflows to deliver software updates.
  • Document technical specifications and usage guidelines for video playback features.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years in web development with significant expertise in JavaScript and video playback technology.
  • Experience developing and supporting video players and live streaming components targeting both web and Connected TV platforms.
  • Proficient with streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, including optimizing live stream behavior.
  • Strong skills in debugging and enhancing playback performance metrics including startup latency, rebuffering, and overall stability.
  • Knowledgeable about video streaming protocols, live playback dynamics (latency, live edge, drift), adaptive bitrate (ABR) strategies, and DRM mechanisms.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capable of operating effectively and independently in a remote, fast-moving work environment.

Desirable Attributes

  • Familiarity with video Quality of Experience metrics, adaptive bitrate algorithms, and analytics platforms such as Conviva or Segment.
  • Experience with Kepler or VegaOS development frameworks.
  • Understanding of Node.js or backend service integrations.
  • Background in large-scale live sports streaming is a plus.
  • Flexible to work overlapping hours with distributed teams, especially 5–6 hours daily aligned with US Pacific Time.

Additional Information

  • This role requires daily time overlap with US PST timezone by approximately 5 to 6 hours.
