Role Purpose
We are seeking a Senior User Researcher to join our team in Berlin (also options in Amsterdam or Heerenveen), with a mission to embed human-centricity deeply in our product lifecycle. As the first dedicated User Researcher within the design organization, you will uncover customer needs, generate meaningful insights, and influence both immediate product improvements and long-term strategic directions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute a diverse range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to explore customer behaviors, motivations, and pain points.
- Conduct interviews, usability tests, surveys, diary studies, and contextual inquiries to gather comprehensive user insights.
- Analyze and synthesize research data into clear, compelling narratives that shape product and service strategies.
- Collaborate extensively with interdisciplinary teams—including Product, Design, Engineering, Data Analytics, Marketing, and Brand—to integrate research throughout the product discovery, delivery, and continuous improvement phases.
- Combine qualitative research with analytics and experimentation data to support evidence-driven decision-making.
- Identify strategic product opportunities by linking customer insights with market trends and organizational objectives.
- Design and manage evaluative research to validate prototypes and live user experiences.
- Develop and maintain organized research documentation and knowledge-sharing platforms.
- Advocate for user-centered design principles by balancing customer needs with business priorities and technical feasibility.
- Coach cross-functional teams to enhance research capabilities and promote customer-centered thinking.
Required Qualifications
- Proven track record conducting and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative user research across various product life stages.
- Expertise in mixed-method research methodologies with the ability to tailor approaches to different questions.
- Strong strategic design mindset aligning customer insights with business objectives to influence product vision and service design.
- Experience collaborating with analytics, data science, and business intelligence teams to merge qualitative and quantitative data.
- Highly developed skills in data triangulation, experimentation frameworks, and customer metric analysis to guide product strategy.
- Exceptional storytelling and communication abilities to clearly convey complex findings to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong facilitation, stakeholder management, and influencing skills to align cross-functional teams around validated customer insights.
- Proficiency in designing and leading workshops aimed at discovery, prioritization, and strategic decision-making.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying strategic opportunities beyond immediate issues.
- Comfort with agile and iterative product development settings.
- Knowledge of experimentation frameworks such as A/B testing and product analytics platforms.
- Experience with AI-assisted research methods and automation practices.
- Familiarity with research and data management software like Condens, TheyDo, Lyssna, Qualtrics, PowerBI, or New Relic.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Background in developing research capabilities across diverse teams.
- Experience establishing research operations, knowledge repositories, or insight management systems.
- Track record shaping product or design strategy based on customer research and evidence synthesis.
- Ability to collaborate across complex product ecosystems with multiple designers and stakeholders.
- Experience within fintech or financial services domains.
- Knowledge of product frameworks and development technologies.
- Experience delivering B2C or B2B2C products.
- Understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG and their application in design processes.
