Role Overview

We are undergoing significant AI advancements that will transform the New Zealand and Australian markets. We seek a Senior/Tech Lead AI Engineer eager to work on impactful projects, contribute their expertise, and drive the development of innovative AI-powered software. Joining our Digital Engineering AI team, you will collaborate across functions to design and deploy state-of-the-art AI models targeting complex business challenges. Multiple positions are available immediately.

Key Qualifications

• Strong software engineering foundation with over 7 years of professional development experience, notably in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Proven experience delivering at least one generative-AI solution in production using Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Foundry, Amazon Bedrock, or equivalent platforms.
• Hands-on knowledge of managing AI contexts, integrating models with pertinent data/tools, including retrieval techniques, embeddings, structured outputs, and tool calling.
• Competence in diagnosing errors, managing API limits/timeouts, and assuring the quality and consistency of AI outputs and processes.
• Excellent customer interaction skills with the ability to understand requirements, communicate technical details clearly, and translate needs into functional solutions.

Preferred Experience

• Background in professional services or client-facing roles.
• Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Microsoft Agent Framework, or similar.
• Expertise in advanced retrieval methods such as hybrid search, reranking, graph-based retrieval, including evaluation of complexity versus benefit in vector stores.
• Experience in AI-assisted development, workspace automation, controlled code execution, repair workflows, and outcome verification.
• Use of Model Context Protocol or similar integrations, encompassing authentication, permissions, and handling untrusted inputs.
• Knowledge of multimodal document and image understanding leveraging current leading models including cross-modal embeddings.
• Experience with fine-tuning or hosting custom AI models on platforms like Microsoft Foundry or Amazon SageMaker as needed.
